About Me

From a young age I always enjoyed the outdoors and environment from which molded my passion for landscape photography. Visiting several national parks with my family growing up I always wanted to be able to make the pictures you saw on the gift-shop post card stands.

It wasn’t until after I started my career as a Mechanical Engineer did I purchase a basic Nikon DSLR and really begin to delve in to the art. Several years later and hours of studying composition, proper gear and technique I was finally pleased with the images being produced and there is still so much more to learn. The motivation for early mornings and late nights is the peace I feel on a shoot and the print hung on a wall over the digital image.

My Approach

There is so much more that goes in to making an image than just clicking the shutter and producing that perfect exposure. Prior to visiting a location I research the area using first hand knowledge or technology such as detailed maps depicting the topography and using applications to predict the location and time of the sunrise or Milky Way core. This research allows me to be more efficient when on site to catch the best light from the optimal location.

I go for a very technical shooting style which includes panoramic and exposure blending techniques to not only create highly detailed images but to also better convey the amazing dynamic range a human eye possesses. For Astrophotography, I use tracking mounts to extend exposure time for greater color depth, detail and significantly lower noise. All of my images are taken from the same tripod location and time period. No elements are ‘Photoshopped’ in. The images are then carefully processed to convey the experience I felt in the field as best remembered. This is a constantly changing process that I am continuing to learn and perfect each day.
